My schedule has me committed to complete one page per week. In order to streamline the amount of work and try to save a bit of time, I decided to attack two double page spreads (total of 4 pages) all at once. Each included a large number of dogs with many repeated on both spreads. This allowed me to draw the same dog back to back, while using the same references and colour palette.

There were 45 dogs in total, and four pages, which gave me 28 days to get done. I also had to do the backdrops for both illustrations but one was rather simple with a soft focus colour blur.

The plan worked better than expected and I was able to get it all done just under 3 weeks – a full week ahead of schedule. And just like that, my tally sheet revealed I only had 17 pages to go…
Dare I dream a release before Christmas?
