We recently had a spring visit to the Island. Henry and I hiked every single day on the beautiful trails in search of camas lilies and other wildflowers. He found a ball, I found inspiration. He had ocean swims and long runs, I rested and worked on the book in front of the campfire.

It was nice to catch up and visit with island peeps. Many asked how the book was coming along. Slowly, but surely. On track. More than halfway there. Actually, I am happy to say that as of today, there are 33 pages completely finished and 23 are left to do. The front cover (coming in a future post), the back cover and spine are all done as well. It is very nice to see more boxes ticked than not.

Someone suggested I make a small edit to page 7, replacing the sailboat with the Sidney Water Taxi. What a great idea, and so much more fitting. I have made quite a few changes to finished pages as the book advances and I get better ideas. I even added two full spreads to include more villains and give a few more dogs a speaking part. It adds to the overall completion time but well worth it.

Next post I will start introducing the story villains – the critters the dogs identify as possible culprits of the great apple caper. Pawsome!
