Slowly, but surely…

I feel like I am drawing ALL the time. I suppose that between my day job and working on the book, then yes, I am sitting in front of my tablet and iPad a lot. With Henry getting surgery 10 days ago, we have been laying low (he’s on full rest for a few weeks) and there has been even more time to colour the illustrations.

Back in the fall when I was working on the draft for the illustrations, I felt that 56 pages, plus a cover and back cover, might be a bit of an overachievement. My goal was to have all illustrations drafted by end of December (achieved!) and then if I could clean up and colour one illustration per week it would take 54 weeks (there are 54 illustrations), so roughly a full year. I created a tracking chart and schedule to show my progress. I remember when that page was filled with white squares…

Artwork progress chart and book schedule

Today I am happy to say that I am passed the one third mark of book completion and ahead of schedule. It took 3 months to complete 24 pages out of the 56. That being said, I have yet to tackle the illustrations that feature most, or all dogs at once-those will take a LOT of time to produce. Still, even if I follow the current schedule, I am looking at being done before year end. Add some time for printing and shipping, in all likelihood the books will be ready for distribution next spring. I was hoping they would be ready by Christmas but I think that is a bit ambitious.

But you never know…..
