A quick post to share the back cover art. I may still add a few touch ups… not sure about a white background. I may also revise the text. But you will get the general idea.
While working on the draft art and story, I thought it would be fun if I began adding ravens here and there. They are such a big part of Sidney Island: rarely does a day go by without a sighting, or two, or more! Having a bunch of ravens “hidden” could also serve as a little game of “how many ravens can you spot?” As I drew them flying in the sky or perched on a tree branch, I thought the story could easily be told by these tricksters, looking down upon the dogs as they try to solve the apple mystery.

The final story doesn’t state that the narrator is a raven. I created the back cover of the book featuring two ravens perched on a log, overlooking a map of the Gulf Islands. The text appears to be said by one of the birds. It is a hint, but leaves the choice to the reader to decide if they believe the ravens are the storytellers, or if the story is simply told by the author.
