Colour is the ultimate commitment. Once you decide on a rendering style and colour palette, you have to commit for the rest of the project. All 54 pages of the book need to look alike so that the characters are believed to live in the same world. It’s not easy. You want to make sure that six months down the road, you will still be satisfied with what your illustrations look like. Artists love to change their minds. And they tend to self-criticize and decide their stuff is no longer the cat’s meow…..
The last couple weeks have been spent trying a variety of options. Some I liked, others I got rid of immediately. Finally, Things started working for me and I settled on a style I think will fit nicely for this project. So here it is, with all the colouring steps, the first finished page of “The Great Apple Caper“.
